Friday September 22

Happy Friday.

I wanted to say thank you to all the wonderful families I met with over the past 2 days.  I learned so much about your children and I feel even more privileged than ever to spending my days with your child.

Just a reminder to please send in the Parent Volunteer Questionnaire.

This past week has been very busy.....as usual.

We have started to learn about coding.  Our first activity was Coding Unplugged.  Here's how this worked:  One child went out in the hall, the other child watched a quick video of a person dancing, the child comes in the classroom and the one that watched the video had to describe how the other child had to move. Some of the moves were to raise your arms, step forward and lean to the side.   This was a good introduction to coding and the kids realized how specific they have to be.

We have also started TUSC-The Ultimate Speaking Club.  The students will each be assigned different jobs in our club (jobs will change every couple weeks).  Their job will outline what kind of task they must complete.  For example: One is the Wacky Animals Facts.  This job requires the student to research a particular animal and present some wacky facts.  During our TUSC meetings there is a chairperson who introduces each speaking and keeps everyone on track.  Each job is presented by a student and the presentation has to be 30 seconds to 1 minute long.  The purpose of this program is to improve our public speaking skills, research skills and our reading and writing.

This week we learned about climbing stories in writing.  This is one way to write a fiction story that has a beginning, middle and end as well as a problem and solution.

In Math we are working on Data analysis.  We have created survey questions, then asked the kids in the class our questions and then represented our data using a variety of graphs: Line plots, bar graphs, charts and tall mark charts.

We had a fire drill this week and as to be expected, everything went very smoothly.  Room 81 were great leaders and role models.

We had library this week.  Each child is allowed to sign out 2 books.  We will be going to the library every Thursday.  Please return books then.

Have a wonderful weekend!
