Important Message:
We are excited to start a new inquiry into Rocks & Minerals and how it impacts our land within Canada and around the world.  We have decided we would like to showcase this through envelope books.  We are wondering if anyone can volunteer to help us sew the books together.  Please see picture below.

Furthermore, by Monday please have your child bring in two-three different types of rocks (eg. shiny, bumpy, smooth, etc.) in a ziploc bag with your child’s name on it.

This week in Room 81:
Math: We continue to work on multiplication.  We incorporated art into Math by creating an "array city".  The student had to design 4 sky scrapers and arrange all windows in an array.  The multiplication sentence was also written on the buildings.  We have also started talking about rounding numbers to the nearest group of 10.  We learned that if the digit in the ones place is 5 or higher you round the number to the next highest group of 10.  Please have your child round these numbers for the nearest group of 10: 23, 19, 15 and 37.

S4 - Start smart stay safe - Constable Mattice from the Calgary Police Service came to talk to us this week about personal strengths.  We are creating stars that outline each student's personal strengths.  Please ask your child what they think their strengths are.

Writing- This week we created settings using plasticine.  These settings will be used along with our popsicle characters to create stories.

New Words their way will be sent home next week.

This week the students presented their animal inquiry google slides presentations.

We have also been working on our character development through Pixton.

Science - we watched a video about Rocks and Minerals.  We learned rocks are made from different minerals and that rocks are classified into 3 different categories.  Please ask your child what these categories are (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic).

We have been learning a few new songs in music - Wish you were here and Hound dog.

Book orders have been placed and I hope they will arrive next week.

Sounds like many kids had a lot of fun at the Halloween Howler last night.

Have a wonderful weekend!
